SALT LAKE CITY — The nephew of a man killed in an officer-involved shooting last August, wants answers. The shooting has since been ruled justified and the family of Patrick Harmon can’t figure out why.

Lamar Ross says his uncle had a history of trouble with the law, but it’s not enough for him to accept the man’s death at the hands of a Salt Lake City police officer. Officers claimed the man ran when they told him he was facing warrants, then turned and threatened them with a knife. Court documents show that’s when the officer says he shot in self-defense.

“I saw the video. That wasn’t the case at all,” Ross said.

The shooting was ruled justified last week, about the same time the County District Attorney’s office released body-camera footage of the shooting.

Ross said he has a meeting set up with the DA’s office tomorrow morning to discuss the ruling and try to change their minds.
