SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — A new train manufacturing facility will be built in Utah.
The Swiss company Stadler broke ground on Friday at 5600 West off I-80, west of the Salt Lake International Airport.
Stadler executives held shovels alongside Utah governor Gary Herbert, Salt Lake Mayor Jackie Biskupski and Senator Orrin Hatch.
Stadler started building trains at UTA’s Warm Springs facility about year ago. But as they got more contracts for more trains around the US, they knew they needed a new plant.
This site they say should have new roads, infrastructure, a test track, manufacturing plant and office space with more than 350 employees by 2018.
They eventually will have 1,000 workers by 2026. It’s a 40 million dollar investment.
