If you enjoy scary shows and haunted houses, you have some psychology to back you up.

Being scared can give someone a confidence boost that they made it through

“Their blood is pumping, and they come out feeling alive and invigorated,” said Jason Conover, a licensed clinical social worker at intermountain healthcare.

Conover says humans like to explore what it means to be human.

“Getting scared expands that feeling aspect,” he said.

It creates positive stress. But, he says bad stress would cross the line into trauma. And people should respect others who really don’t want to feel frightened.
