SALT LAKE CITY – The team stepped on the court last night sporting black warm up shirts. On the back was the big Ute logo, but they merged the design with the Chinese flag. Written below on a red ribbon the team printed “R.I.P. ChenWei Guo”.

The idea came from a team staff member, Dale Stewlow, who was touched when he saw Nevada teams honor Las Vegas shooting victims in a similar way.

“I thought that was really cool,” said Stewlow, who had family at that concert. “I felt comforted, I guess.”

He wanted to do the same for Guo’s friends and family. So he took the idea to the team coaches. They liked it, and Stewlow recruited design artist Alena Rogers to help him out.

“Probably started at ten A.M. yesterday and got the shirts done.” Stewlow said.

He said it was a one-time deal, the team will have new shirts for their next warm up, but he’s already heard from students who were comforted by the team’s gesture. Stewlow said the team is working with the print shop to send a few of the shirts to Guo’s family.
