Pastor France Davis of Salt Lake’s Calvary Baptist Church, says churches used to be sanctuaries, where people felt safe.

“More and more these days, with more and more people being violent in terms of their behavior, more and more people have mental problems on the streets, and more and more guns readily available for people to do with what they will, we are not safe.”

Pastor Davis says he had a workshop Saturday before the shootings about adding more security to their building.

“We need to have security at the doors, we need to have security inside in the sanctuaries where worship is happening, and we need security outside, because there are people doing damage to cars and property and so forth,” he said.

And they have hired security for this week’s anniversary events. It’s their 125th anniversary in Salt Lake City.

Davis also talked about solutions to such violence.

“There used to be a day on the books laws that said if you seaid this about people, you had to account for that. If you did physical harm to people, you were held accountable. We have to get back to that.”

And he says we need to teach people to love one another and treat them the way they would want to be treated.
