LOGAN — Utah State University students dressed in red today to honor the life of a University of Utah student killed in a failed carjacking last week.

Nicole Heaps, a student, said she learned about the event in one of her classes.

“His life is as important as any other college student,” Heaps said. “It’s important to recognize him and support his life.”

Chenwei Guo was killed when police say Austin Boutain shot him late last Monday in an attempted carjacking. Boutain was on the run from police in Colorado and is now facing charges in two murder investigations.

Today Guo’s family and friends gathered at the institute building at the University of Utah to pay their respects. In Logan, Tayli Lindquist, another student, said dressing up in red was a way they could also participate.

“They let go of their school pride for a second to honor another school and another person.” Lindquist said.
