SPANISH FORK – A man from Mexico is arrested in Spanish Fork after he reportedly tried to set up a new meth distribution ring in Utah County.  He was busted after he reportedly tried to arrange to sell drugs to an undercover agent.

The Utah County Major Crimes Task Force had reportedly been in contact with Alejandro Baca Cordona for some time.  Task Force Director, Lt. Dennis Harris, says Cordona and the agent agreed to meet at the Spanish Fork Walmart to exchange 10 pounds of meth.  Harris says, “Part of the agreement was they were talking about setting up shop here in Utah County if things went well.”

Charging documents say after the undercover reportedly saw the meth in Cardona’s trunk, he gave the signal to other officers who made the arrest.  The drugs had a wholesale value of $60 thousand, but, it had a much higher value on the streets.  “They usually charge, here, locally, upwards of $100 for a gram.  That comes up to around $454 thousand, so, there’s a huge profit margin in these areas here,” says Harris, adding, “You’re not going to bring ten pounds of methamphetamine across the border unless you’re reasonably connected with a cartel.”

Over the past five weeks, Harris says nearly 54 pounds of meth has been seized, mostly in Salt Lake and Utah counties.
