More ordering online means more packages being delivered, which means more opportunity for porch thieves.

Unified Police Lt Brian Lohrke has a camera system that alerts his phone if something is dropped off or someone is at the door. He says everyone ought to get one if they can afford it, and have the cameras pointed right at the place where packages are dropped off, so they get a good view of people at your door.

Point the cameras on parking lots or on the street, too, to catch a view of a burglar who may have hit your neighbor.

Lt Lohrke says if you don’t have cameras, get neighbors to watch for your packages and vice versa.

And be nosier neighbor, and call police right away if something doesn’t look right.

He adds your home insurance company may also have some tips.
