UTAH STATE CAPITOL – There was a lot of activity around the Capitol building as Secret Service agents prepare for President Trump’s visit to Utah this Monday.
Among the tourists walking through the Capitol Rotunda, you could also see security officials, K9 units and other officers looking over maps and scoping out the best places for press risers and speaking locations. Agents looked over the rotunda, the Gold Room, and even Governor Herbert’s office.
The Secret Service will obviously be taking the lead when it comes to protecting President Trump while in Utah, but, the Utah Highway Patrol is usually called to assist when any dignitary visits Utah. Lieutenant Todd Royce says this Monday will be no different. “We offer assistance to the [Secret Service]. They’ll call up and ask us for assistance. It’s nothing that’s not out of the ordinary.”
Tentatively, the president is expected to arrive Monday morning, then speak at the Capitol sometime after noon. However, “The itinerary is always changing. It doesn’t necessarily mean that’s where they’re going to possibly be,” Royce says, adding, “We have to be prepared but understand that schedules can change.”
Senator Orrin Hatch has stated President Trump will also meet with officials from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at Welfare Square.
