State parks should be getting some new money this year for upgrades.

The Deseret News reports as an example, one of the state’s most popular parks, Antelope Island has some wiring issues.  Other areas have cracked pavement or potholes, and restrooms badly need upgrades.

Governor Gary Herbert is proposing ten million dollars go toward much-needed improvements at the parks, and to get Echo Reservoir ready to join the state parks system.

The money is from an account made of user fees at state parks.  That’s because lawmakers ordered the parks division to run a self-sufficient operation.

It’s the state parks system 60th anniversary this year.
