A state lawmaker thinks her bill to restrict talking on the phone while driving should be received well this upcoming legislative session.
Representative Carol Spackman Moss says it’s one of the biggest complaints she gets — people running others off the road or nearly causing a crash because they are holding a phone to their ear.
“If other legislators are listening to their constituents, I would think they would be supportive,” she said.
She says HB 64 would still allow hands-free talking. But University of Utah Professor David Strayer has said hands-free is just as distracting.
“Until you have some autonomous vehicles that can drive itself, you have a responsibility to pay attention while you are driving,” he said.
