UTAH — A couple of big construction projects are headed our way in the new year.

The Utah Department of Transportation has already started work on the first. Crews have been widening 106th South between I-15 and I-215. John Gleason, public information officer for UDOT, said that project will take most of the year, but the really big projects won’t start until this spring.

“We’re widening I-15 in Lehi from four lanes to six lanes in each direction,” Gleason said, adding that growth in the area has caused big delays in that area during popular commute times, “You’ll see those delays stretch out for a few miles.”

Gleason warned another project will also gum up traffic in the spring.

“We’re adding a lane on southbound I-15 from SR 201 to 123rd South.” Gleason said.

This stretch of the freeway has also seen an explosion of growth in the last few years and UDOT expects to see more in the comming years.

“We talk about the growth here in the state all the time. Nowhere is that more evident than along the Wasatch Front in Salt Lake County and Utah County.” Gleason said.
