Salt Lake City celebrated this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service at Utah Food Bank in Salt Lake City. Now in its 16th year, the Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski and YouthCity Government are proud to continue partnering with Utah Food Bank to celebrate the MLK Day holiday.

Approximately 75-100 volunteers participated this year, helping to sort and package food for distribution. Volunteer teams also delivered food boxes to Utah Food Bank clients. This is the third year Mayor Biskupski has teamed up with YouthCity to help at Utah Food Bank. YouthCity provides young people between the ages of nine and 18 opportunities to develop skills and confidence while serving their communities.

Founded in 1904, Utah Food Bank has operated under various names but remains true to its mission of Fighting Hunger Statewide by providing food to a statewide network of 149 emergency food pantries and agencies. Last fiscal year, Utah Food Bank distributed 39.2 million pounds of food and goods, the equivalent of approximately 32.7 million meals, to families and individuals in need.
