Senator Gene Davis (D-Salt Lake City) has again proposed full expansion of Medicaid, which has been tried for years but it has not passed. But he thinks recent actions in Washington DC may be reason enough to re-ignite the attempt.

The Deseret News says the targeted partial expansion of Medicaid benefits in Utah is giving some people health care for the first time in years, specifically homeless people with drug addiction and mental health issues.

But it’s estimated that nearly 60-thousand Utahns fall into a coverage gap. The Utah Senate president says the flaw is in the federal law.
