Utah state lawmakers are considering a bill that would add anti-porn education in public schools.

HB 286 seeks to make sure kids get better sex education in public schools while giving parents flexibility.

The bill sets up eight sex-ed modules or class topics, and the anti-porn class is new to state curriculum.

Representative Justin Fawson says a parent-led committee would decide what kinds of things are taught in that class, and what kind of pictures are shown.

“And we are also giving parents the ability to decide whether students will look at the curriculum in the classroom, or have it in their own home,” he said.

He wants to have school districts look at local health data for things like teen pregnancy or STD rates, to adjust their teaching to what may be needed more in that area.

Fawson also wants to change human sexuality classes to reproductive health classes to take out the emotion and make it more science and health based.
