Utah’s flu numbers may be peaking. State health officials are cautiously optimistic that we are on the downward trend.
But there is still a lot of the flu season left to go.

“It’s important to be vaccinated. It is the best way to prevent getting sick yourself, and to prevent spreading it,” said Influenza surveillance epidemiologist Gregg Reed at the Utah Department of Health.

Reed says you can still get a flu shot. Influenza season doesn’t end until May.

The latest numbers have 1,587 Utahns sick with the flu. The hope is that cases are peaking.

“If you do get sick, it is of utmost importance to remain in communication with your provider, to receive early anti-viral treatment. That’s shown to be so effective” he said.

And if you are sick, wash your hands and stay home.

He says the flu shot has been especially protective for young children this year.

But the flu is unpredictable, and they still expect plenty of activity.
