SANDY – Federal agents shot a man Tuesday shortly before 5 p.m. as they attempted to serve an arrest warrant near the Historic Sandy Trax station.

An ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) task force tracked the suspect and officers came into contact with the wanted individual while he was in a vehicle at a parking lot near 165 East 9000 South.

Sandy Police Lt. Dean Carriger says when the agents made contact with the man and “based on some actions of the individual” shots were fired by the officers.

His condition is unknown right now, but he was taken to the Intermountain Medical Center in Murray.

Others were in the car with the suspect and were being detained for questioning. Police have yet to release the name of the man and details about the ATF’s arrest warrant are not known.
