OREM – A Salem man is facing a slew of charges after police say he made some terrible decisions and attacked a Utah County Sheriff’s deputy.
Jesus Hartman was originally pulled over in Orem after an officer reportedly saw him driving roughly 80 miles an hour along 800 West. The arresting officer thought he saw Hartman crash into another car. The officer’s suspicions were later confirmed.
Orem Police Lieutenant Craig Martinez says, “[Hartman] ended up hitting, or sideswiping a parked car.”
The officer claims he noticed a strong smell of alcohol from inside Hartman’s car and he was combative with police and with the medical staff trying to take a blood sample.
“He ended up arresting [Hartman] for a whole slew of charges including, DUI, reckless driving, and resisting arrest,” Martinez says.
While in the jail, Hartman reportedly made his move and head-butted one of the deputies that were booking him. The deputy was not seriously hurt. Martinez says headbutts are never really as effective as they may appear in the movies.
“I don’t know too many trained professionals that can headbutt and have it works like everybody thinks they do,” he adds.
