SANDY — A Sandy restaurant has some serious cleaning to do before the Salt Lake County Health Department will allow it to reopen.

La Frontera Cafe at 61 W. 10600 South had dead and live cockroaches around the tortilla chips, bar and other places, according to its latest inspection. The salsa was warm enough to breed bacteria. The ice machine’s interior, like much of the restaurant, was filthy.

The cafe had 48 violations, 17 of which were deemed critical to human health.

Salt Lake County health officials shut down La Frontera, as well as the Sweet Chimneys food truck based at 5622 W. 8200 South, West Jordan. Inspectors busted the latter for putting baked cakes on the floor.

Both places are closed until they’re much cleaner.
