SALT LAKE CITY — Utah gas prices continue soar, but one analyst predicts we’ll have some relief soon.

The Holly Frontier refinery fire in Woods Cross in March is still hurting Utah oil output.

“That is limiting output likely through the end of April,” said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst at Gas Buddy. “And the price of crude oil is hovering near multi-year highs.”

DeHaan also factors crude oil selling at $69 a barrel, high travel demand, and summer blend production, into Utah’s average of nearly $3.00 a gallon for regular gasoline.

He thinks it’ll reach $3.25, but come down by June 1.

“Refinery maintenance in the region and the country should wrap up in the weeks ahead,” DeHaan said. “And the transition to summer gas should be over.”

Utah’s gas prices are up 55 cents a gallon since March.
