PROVO — A Provo woman is expected to survive after being shot three times Saturday night, police say.
Police responded at 10:17 p.m. to a home at 1432 W. 500 North, where officers found the 48-year-old woman and her 22-year-old son taking cover behind a truck. The woman had been shot three times with a 9 mm handgun and was taken to a hospital, according to Provo police detective Nick Dupaix. The woman was undergoing surgery Sunday but was expected to survive, Dupaix said.
Inside the home, police found the body of the woman’s husband, Michael Skinner, 48. Police say the shooting started with a physical altercation between Skinner and his adult son. As many as 10 shots were fired during the dispute, Dupaix said.
A SWAT team made several attempts to reach Skinner with no success, and ultimately sent in a K-9 unit. At 4:39 a.m., police found Skinner’s body inside the home. Police did not immediately release information about how the man died or the condition of his body.
Police say the woman and adult son left the house at some point, but the woman went back inside to get shoes when she saw Skinner with a handgun. The woman left the home and was shot three times in the driveway.
