Quinci Wyatt- 18 years old

Quinci was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia or ALL on August 2, 2017. Leading up to the diagnosis Quinci had started summer conditioning training for cross country and found that she just couldn’t run normally, she was very tired and started getting nauseous. Her mom took her in to her regular doctor for blood work. It was when 2 different sets of blood test came back with concerning results the doctor sent them to Primary Children’s Hospital.

We became acquainted with many medical teams- they didn’t think she was sick enough to have Cancer, that it must be a strange virus. It took about 10 days to get a diagnosis. Quinci’s treatment plan is about 3 years with 9 months of heavy chemotherapy and then ‘maintenance’ which consists of monthly visits and oral medication. Even though her treatment plan is outpatient, which usually means weekly chemo given in clinic, because of complications and treatment she spent time in the hospital in September, October, November, December and January.

When Quinci was inpatient she took advantage of Art Therapy- which meant the use of a polaroid camera including film that she could use to take pictures of some of her favorite people. Integrated Medicine, including massage, acupuncture and aromatherapy. Once Quinci tried Music Therapy she LOVED it and Sophie’s place, which is a magical room full of instruments and even a recording room.

Quinci loves her photography class, and art classes, and also seminary. This year she has been going to Primary Children’s to get tutoring at the school zone. It is a wonderful resource and our friends there are very invested in Quinci and in her graduation date that is coming up. She has had wonderful math tutoring which has made math enjoyable for the first time in her life!

Quinci will start college at Salt Lake Community College from there she may go to SUU or UVU. She would like to do Fashion Merchandising, photography, or possibly nursing.
