SALT LAKE CITY — The latest E. coli contamination from bad romaine lettuce in Arizona has spread to Utah.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports 121 people have gotten food poisoning in 25 states, including Utah, from romaine lettuce laced with E. coli from Yuma, Arizona.
A California resident has died from the contamination.
In 2006, contaminated baby spinach sickened 200 people and killed five others nationwide.
E. coli usually leads to vomiting and diarrhea, and sometimes kidney failure.
Romaine lettuce lasts two weeks on the shelves, so most of the bad batch may be gone.
If you have some that may be suspect, throw it out, health officials advise.
