SALT LAKE CITY – Hundreds of Utahns report getting a robocall against a proposed ballot initiative called “Count My Vote.”
It even claims the proponents of the initiative are facing criminal charges.
“This petition aims to weaken and dismantle our neighborhood caucus meetings,” the woman’s voice says, “that hold our politicians accountable, and keep big money out of Utah politics.”
The proposed measure would enforce state law that candidates can collect signatures to get onto primary ballots.
The robocall, which you can hear in full below, also suggests the movement for the initiative may have duped Utahns.
“If you never signed any petition in the past year, press 1,” the robocall says. “If signature gatherers weren’t honest with you about what they asked you to sign, press 2.”
“Keep My Voice,” which opposes “Count My Vote,” won’t return Utah Policy’s calls asking if it’s behind the robocall.
