HERRIMAN – One Utah school is taking a stand to stop teen suicide and look for solutions to potential causes, such as anxiety.

Several students at Herriman High School have taken their own lives this school year.

So, hundreds of community members gathered to watch a screening of the independent film Angst on Wednesday night to learn about anxiety’s impacts, including suicide, for people of all ages.

“I’ve just really been touched by the outpouring,” one viewer said. “People care. People want to talk about this issue.”

“Talking about it is the first step to actually breaking the stigma about mental health,” another viewer said. “Other people can see that they’re not alone in struggling with anxiety.”

The film’s producer hopes the documentary will help parents and kids understand that anxiety is treatable to prevent future tragedies.

If you or someone you know is thinking about suicide, please seek help. There are multiple resources available here, including the Safe UT app, which is staffed 24/7 for crisis intervention.
