TAYLORSVILLE — Unified police said a man in his early 20s died late Friday night in a car crash at the intersection of 6200 South and the Bangerter Highway.

The crash happened just before 11:45 p.m.

UPD Detective Ken Hansen said the man who died was driving a Honda sedan. He either failed to see a northbound semi-truck or misjudged its speed and slammed into the rig from behind. The impact caused the car to slide underneath the semi’s trailer.

Two passengers who were also in the car had to be extricated from the wreckage. They were both men in their early 20s, like the driver, and were last reported to be in serious condition.

The crash forced the closure of the northbound lanes of Bangerter Highway at 6200 South during the overnight hours. Unified police were still working to identify the driver’s family on Saturday morning.

The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
