SALT LAKE CITY – The summit between North Korea and the U.S. is vital to protecting overall safety in the Far East, even for Utahns.

Utah has sent Olympians, business people and service members to South Korea.

“So, I think North Korea and its ballistic missile threat, and sometimes the schizophrenic nature of its leadership, is something that people have to keep on their toes about,” said Michael Madden of North Korea Leadership Watch.

Madden says that’s why Utahns have a stake in talks between Kim Jong Un and Donald Trump in Singapore.

Madden adds a handful of Utahns do agricultural charity work in North Korea.

“North Koreans need small farms where they have snow and a mountainous terrain, and that’s the agricultural guidance they need,” Madden said. “They don’t need guidance from these giant alfalfa farms in the south.

Madden hears North Koreans who have visited Utah like its beauty and cleanliness.
