WEST JORDAN — A man is being charged with sexually abusing an 8-year-old girl from his LDS ward, and West Jordan police are worried there may be more victims.

Sgt. J.C. Holt says 45-year-old Sean David Sund, as a primary teacher with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was in a position of trust and authority over the alleged victim.

According to the probable cause statement, police believe the reported abuse happened during several sleepovers at Sund’s home, involving children from his ward. An eight-year-old girl told her parents she had been abused, and they reported it to the Department of Child and Family Services, who in turn contacted police.

“The details surrounding the allegations — they’re horrific,” Holt says.

Police say in their probable cause statement that Sund confessed to at least two occasions of abuse which matched what the victim alleged in her interview. Sund posted bail after his arrest, but later turned himself in after formal charges were filed.

“It’s sad. They violate the position of trust and these little kids get hurt,” Holt says.

Police are investigating the possibility of more victims. They are asking anyone who suspects abuse to contact them.
