Scipio, Utah – Three members of a family on vacation from North Carolina are dead after a head-on crash on SR-50 near Scipio. The Utah Highway Patrol believes speed and distracted driving may have been factors in the crash.

The family of four was driving through Utah in a black Ford Fusion.

“They had kind of gone cross-country visiting the sights,” says Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Todd Royce.

According to Lt. Royce, an eastbound Porsche SUV went to pass another car. “The Porsche never made it back into their lane,” he says.

That’s when the the Porsche hit the Fusion head-on.

Husband and wife, Tyrone and Holly Jo Bova, were killed instantly. “And there was an 11-year-old boy in the backseat that died in route to Primary Childrens,” says Royce. Their 17-year-old son is hospitalized in extremely critical condition.

Lt. Royce says the driver of the Porsche, a Sandy woman, is in stable condition. Her 9-year-old daughter is in critical condition at Primary Children’s Hospital.

Investigators believe the woman may have been distracted by dogs in the car prior to the crash.
