DRAPER — Electric car owners in Utah now have eight more places to stop for a charge. And soon, they’ll have even more,

Rocky Mountain Power is partnering with state and local organizations in a collaboration called Live Electric.

Fast-charging terminals are now open at eight Maverik stations along I-15 in Wellsville, Farr West, Syracuse, Stansbury, Draper, Santaquin, Fillmore, and Washington.

Maverik C-E-O Chuck Maggelet says their involvement is a long-term plan to better serve their customers. “While there’s a relatively low fraction of customers using electric right now, we expect that to grow in the future,” says Maggelet.

Rocky Mountain Power Strategic Project Advisor James Campbell says the initiative is leading the charge toward an all-electric future. “There isn’t a lot of other states where they’ve done that,” adds Campbell.

The Live Electric collaboration hopes to have 700 of the fast-charging stations installed throughout Utah by 2020.
