HYDE PARK — Ten months after their arrests, a Hyde Park couple has been criminally charged on suspicion of abusing their young son.
The prosecutor got an opinion from a Primary Children’s Hospital doctor after the boy was found on Sept. 6.
It said that “the child, in this case, had experienced severe emotional harm, while in the care of the suspects in this case,” said Cache County Deputy Attorney Spencer Walsh.
This week, he charged Craig and Paulette Boersma with second-degree felony child abuse.
The probable cause statement says they beat and starved their 8-year-old son, and made him sleep on the floor in a locked room.
It also said the boy expressed suicidal and homicidal thoughts.
“The child is no longer in custody of these two individuals,” Walsh said. “The information I have is that the child is doing much better.”
No attorney for the Boersmas has been listed.
Their first court appearance is Aug. 21.
