WEST JORDAN — Police are looking for a man who they say stole over five thousand dollars from an unsuspecting victim.  Luckily for them, they got very clear pictures from the ATM surveillance camera.

Police are not sure how, but, they say their suspect got access to his victim’s checking account information.  Sergeant J.C. Holt of the West Jordan Police Department says it could have happened in several ways.  Sometimes, all they need is a picture of a check.

“These people that are out doing this, they have figured out ways to access people’s checking accounts, whether it be through some sort of skimming device or an internet transaction,” Holt says.

Holt says the suspect took that information and was able to transfer just over 52 hundred dollars.

“He used that to go to an ATM to transfer money into a different account.  Then he withdrew money from that (second) account,” he adds.

Investigators have been looking for this suspect since late May, however, Holt says they’ve exhausted most of their leads.  So, they’re turning to the public for help.

“A lot of these ATMs are outside and the glass film over them gets scratched and not very clear.  But, that’s not the case with this one.  We got great pictures.”

In one picture, he’s wearing a black shirt with a picture of an eye inside of a triangle.  In another, he’s wearing a black shirt with a Powerade logo with a University of Utah U below it.
