COVE CREEK — I-70 has been closed both east and westbound due to public and firefighter safety after the Cove Creek Fire has increased to almost 1,200 acres.

The location of the closure is 7 miles east of the I-70/I-15 Interchange, near Shingle Creek in Sevier County.

Crews are continuing to hold and secure the line in attempts to protect various infrastructures.

In a video released by Utah Fire Info, smoke can be seen from the surrounding areas from where the wildfire is located.

The fire originally started due to lighting on July 17th and has increased over the past week, currently residing at 15% and the Central Utah Fire Interagency requests drivers to not stop along the roadway due to safety concerns.

The Utah Department of Transportation announced that the roadway is expected to fully reopen Saturday evening.
