ZION NATIONAL PARK, Utah –Officials say hikers who mocked rangers about their preparedness ended up having to be rescued in Zion National Park.

Information from the National Park Service says the group was heading through the Subway. Zion National Park rangers say a group mocked the ranger’s advice when they picked up their permit.

He recommended a rope and multiple harnesses for the rappels but the group started the 9.5 mile hike without it. One person tried to jump to the other side and injured his knee, and a helicopter had to come fly him out.

Another group spent the night in the canyon after getting lost and were found the next day. Officials say they were wearing inappropriate footwear for the rough and wet terrain.
