SALT LAKE CITY — A series of motorcycle accidents in northern Utah are putting the state on track to set a new record – the kind no one wants to break.
Two people died over the weekend, and a third person died overnight, after two separate crashes.
Our count shows at least 35 people in Utah have died on motorcycles so far this year. It’s on pace to set a record.
On Saturday in Orem, police say two sport bikes were southbound on State Street when one crashed into a turning car. A 20-year-old man from Saudi Arabia died.
Then early Sunday morning in West Valley City, a man and a woman crashed their bike in West Valley City. The woman was killed; the man died later.
UDOT Spokeswoman Lisa Miller and her husband love to ride, and they know the risks.
“We have had close calls and I think most of our friends can say the same,” she said. “It’s always very hard for us when there are fatalities in the motorcycle community.”
Police are investigating speed as the cause of both deadly accidents.
