SALT LAKE CITY — Rep. Mia Love, R-Utah, says she disagrees with the Trump administration’s policies on trade with China and other countries.

She told a small group of constituents she met with at her 4th Congressional District office yesterday that she’s talked with both the president’s top trade and economic advisers, and to her, it isn’t clear what the administration will accomplish by imposing tariffs on products from China and other nations.

“From what I see, I disagree with it. The problem is I can’t get a strategy out of the administration,” Love said. “The only answer I got from them is, ‘Hang in there. Stick with us. We’ll wait and see.’ I can’t live with that.”

She says the U.S. should just target China and not everybody else. Love says there’s widespread agreement that China has not been fair in its trade practices.

“We should just target China,” Love said. “We should try to get them to become good actors, and then everybody else. You try to deal with the biggest bully on the block. So I guess I don’t understand the tactic of going after everybody else,” Love said.

Love also said she’s planning on being part of a delegation from the House Financial Services Committee headed to Beijing and Hong Kong to gather information and not get it secondhand.
