SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah will enact a clear bag policy which it experimented with during athletic events last year at the Huntsman Center and Rice-Eccles Stadium.

Last season fans could voluntarily participate in the program, but now it will be mandatory upon entering into the stadiums for the remaining of 2018 and all of 2019.

“The University of Utah adopted this policy in order to provide a great game day experience by making the stadium access more efficient,” the school said in a press release. “This proactive measure will enhance security inside and outside of the athletics venues and speed up the security screening process for all fans.”

The annual Red Zone Fan Fest at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Saturday, Aug, 18, will be the first event held under the new policy.

Approved clear plastic bags may be no more than 12 inches x 6 inches x 12 inches or a one-gallon Ziploc bag. Each guest can carry one large clear bag as well as a small clutch for privacy. Bags for binoculars, cameras, smart phones, tablets will be prohibited but fans are still welcome to bring those items without the bag for them.

Seat cushions with zippers, pockets, compartments, or covers will not be allowed. However cushions no wider than 18 inches can be brought to the stadium.

Guests will also be able to bring blankets and jackets which can hang over the arm. Items which are folded will have to be opened and inspected to gain entry. The university also said diaper bags will be allowed in but are also subject to inspection. Fans must also have their infant present at inspection of the bag.
