SALT LAKE CITY — President Donald Trump is proposing $1 trillion in federal money to fix the nation’s infrastructure: roads, bridges and dams, with money going to the states that need it first.
24/7 Wall Street created an index with the help of the Army Corps of Engineers and the Association of State Dam Officials to see how Utah and other states stack up when it comes to infrastructure.
Overall, the site ranked Utah 38th – squarely in the middle of the road – when it comes to spending on infrastructure. The report found Utah only had 2.9% bridges considered “deficient,” the 5th lowest in the country. However, engineers said Utah has the 12th highest number of dams considered “at high hazard risk.” The state had 4.2% of its roads in poor condition, which is 21st lowest in the country. Meanwhile, it appeared the state was getting a decent amount of bang for its buck. Utah was 14th lowest for spending on state highways per driver at $399.
By that measure, Florida stands to gain the most from President Trump’s proposed cash flow toward roads, bridges and dams. At 50th out of 50 on the 24/7 Wall Street list, Florida ranked worst overall, even though only 1.3% of the Sunshine State’s roads are considered to be in poor condition.
