SALT LAKE CITY — Leaders already imposed one tax increase this year. Now, they’re asking voters to approve another one for roads funding in November.
Salt Lake’s City Council wants an $87 million property tax bond to pay for street repairs. That’s on top of the approved $33 million sales tax hike for roads, police and affordable housing.
Salt Lake County imposed its own $58 million sales tax hike for transportation projects this year.
The city council cited a Y2Analytics poll that showed 79% support for November’s bond.
One critic told leaders these increases hurt his chances of buying a home in Salt Lake.
