SALT LAKE CITY — Three Weber County men face criminal charges for the death of a former Utah high school wrestling champion. Federal prosecutors say they gave him a synthetic opioid.

In March, investigators found a pill that tested positive for fentanyl inside the West Haven home of Jaydon Rogers, 22.

They say that eventually led them to suspects Adam Hemmelgarn, 37, of Hooper, Tyrell Perry, 20, of Roy, and Christian Jimerson, 19, of West Haven, but they wouldn’t say how.

A federal grand jury returned a four-count indictment against Hemmelgarn, Perry and Jimerson, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said Monday.

Rogers wrestled at Fremont High and earned All-America honors at Western Wyoming Community College.

U.S. Attorney for Utah John Huber said the opioid epidemic is “crushing” families nationwide, and we must all rise above it.
