SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — The University of Utah says a graduate assistant has been reassigned after her course syllabus established a “zone” and said concealed carry holders would be punished.

Concealed weapons are allowed on campus, under state and federal law and university policy.

A copy of weapons policy in that course syllabus was posted on State Representative Karianne Lisonbee’s Facebook page. It said that if you wanted to bring a concealed weapon to class, you would spend time in a 3 by 3 taped square in the very back of the class called a “second amendment zone.” It said desks are reserved for students who “respect the personal and psychological safety of their classmates and instructor.”

A University of Utah statement says they removed that paragraph from the curriculum, and have re-assigned the graduate assistant. She apparently has also apologized and received additional training.

A university statement responded to the grad assistant’s “second amendment zone.”

We don’t know the name of that teacher or the class.
