SALT LAKE CITY — Police are investigating a stabbing death of a 17-year-old boy after a fight broke out south of downtown Salt Lake City.

Two groups started their fight on 1300 South near State and Main Street.

“The altercation wound up coming over to Kensington Avenue and State Street, where the fight broke out again between two groups of individuals,” said Sgt. Richard Chipping.

He added the teenager was stabbed once and lost a lot of blood at 75 Kensington Ave. early Monday morning and later died at a hospital due to his injury.

“We’re looking at getting surveillance footage in the area, trying to view that information, as well as interview individuals,” he said.

Chipping says that he does not suspect gang violence at this time and witnesses are cooperating.
