Motherhood is more popular than it was just a few years ago. More women are now mothers in America, and they are having more children than they used to.

Pew Research Center

A new report from the Pew Research Center found 86 percent of women ages 40 to 44 said they were mothers in 2016, up from 80 percent in 2006.

Women who reported being mothers in 2016 had 2.07 children on average, up from the all-time low of 1.86 ten years before.

It’s still down from 1976, when 90 percent of women were mothers, and the average number of children per mother was 3.09; however, it represents a turn around from several decades of decline.
