SPRINGDALE — Labor Day planners beware: several popular trails at Zion National Park will be closed through the holiday weekend.

Park officials say unstable and unreliable trail integrity will leave some of the most trafficked trails closed this weekend while crews work to repair damage done by flooding last month.

Those trails include Kayenta, Upper Emerald Pools, West Rim from the Grotto Trailhead to Cabin Springs…and yes…Angel’s Landing.

The closures will be strictly enforced by park officials. Violators could face steep fines.

Park officials say it might not be until the end of next month before Angel’s Landing reopens — a retaining wall was completely washed out by that flooding and hundred-year-old check dams built to protect the trail destroyed.

There are still a plethora of awesome hikes and sights to be seen. The Narrows, Riverside Walk, and often overlooked and underrated Observation Point remain open.

Recent storms have affected the Zion-Mount Carmel Highway through the park as well.
