BOUNTIFUL, Utah — Utah Highway Patrol troopers say a pickup truck going the wrong way early Friday morning caused a deadly crash on I-15.

The pickup somehow got onto I-15 at 2600 South, going north in the southbound lanes. Troopers say they got a call around 1:15 AM about the wrong way driver, and then just a few seconds later the truck crashed into a Hyundai Elantra.

Two people in the Elantra, a man and a woman, where killed, and the pickup truck caught fire, killing its only occupant.

Troopers are now trying to determine what caused this to happen, whether it was alcohol, drugs, drowsiness, a medical impairment, confusion, or something else.

Southbound I-15 was closed for hours at 500 South, leading to large backups. It re-opened at about 6:15AM. Tune to KSL Newsradio 102.7FM/1160AM or use the app to hear the latest traffic conditions, and the latest on the crash.
