SLC Police: Man dies after incident with weapon

SALT LAKE CITY – The Salt Lake Police Department confirms a man is dead from a self-inflicted gun shot after authorities responded to an incident involving a weapon.
Incident with a weapon in the area west of Pioneer Park. Street closures. Please avoid the area. Media stage at 400 South 400 West on the corner of Pioneer Park.

Authorities say police were trying to stop the man who had a warrant. He ran barricaded himself inside a building near 300 or 400 South around 400 West. Police did not say which building, but put the entire block on lock down as they attempted to find the man. Officials say they found him inside the building dead from the gun wound.

Police did not reveal the man’s name as they attempt to notify the next of kin. People should avoid the area of 350 South and 300 West as authorities continue to investigate. They say they could have the area shut down until 6:30 p.m. or later Wednesday.
