WOODS CROSS — The search for a new Woods Cross chief of police is undoubtedly underway after current chief, Greg Butler, abruptly resigned this week.

City officials say Butler’s resignation follows what they call a “disagreement with the city.” It’s unclear what that disagreement may have been about.

“We were going back and forth,” says Woods Cross City Administrator Gary Uresk. “And we finally just made the decision that it would be better for all parties if involved that he would resign.”

According to Uresk, it was a completely mutual agreement and deciding to go separate ways was the best call.

“Chief Butler has done a good job for us, and you know, there’s no ill feelings or whatever,” explains Uresk.

Butler had served as Woods Cross police chief since 2011. The city’s website says he became a police officer in Bountiful in 1986.
