SALT LAKE CITY — Two former Unified Fire Authority chiefs won’t face criminal charges, even though investigators found they misused tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars.
Chief Michael Jensen and Deputy Chief Gaylord Scott are off the hook, so far.
“We’ll now have to take a look at this report and decide whether or not we want to pursue any civil actions or clawbacks in terms of the incentives and bonuses,” said UFA board president Rob Dahle.
Dahle was “disappointed,” but understood Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes didn’t think he’d get a conviction.
His office found the men acted within UFA’s “loose governance and management structure.”
“We bear some responsibility for that, and we have very aggressively corrected the areas that we thought were loose,” Dahle said.
Reyes’ investigation found Jensen and Scott spent tax dollars on exorbitant bonuses, plus personal vacations and electronic equipment.
