SALT LAKE CITY — It’s a first for a Utahn, as rising superstar Tony Finau will play in one of the world’s most prestigious golf tournaments.

He got the news from team captain Jim Furyk.

“I was ecstatic and excited with all those types of emotions, and it was a pretty cool feeling,” Finau said. “As a kid, I dreamed of playing the Ryder Cup. I watched the Ryder Cup. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

The Utahn is the 12th and final member of the U.S. team. He had 11 top-ten finishes on the PGA tour this year.

Finau is proud to represent the Beehive State.

“It’s a place I’m extremely proud to be from, a loving place, and we have a lot to offer,” he said.

“To be able to show that to the rest of the world is something that’s really cool for me.”

Finau sinks a lot of birdies, critical for the Ryder Cup’s match play.
