SALT LAKE CITY – A Salt Lake City woman is dead after an early morning drive-by shooting, but, police say they don’t have a good description of the people behind it.  They hope the public can help them track down the suspect or suspects.

The shooting happened on Harrison Avenue, which is technically an alley, just before 6:30 Friday morning.  Neighbor Lili Ramirez heard the shots ring out.

“I heard this loud ‘BOOM!’  It was really loud.  It didn’t sound like gunshots.  It sounded like a car backfiring, really loud,” Ramirez says.

Detective Keith Horrocks says, “Officers were actually in the area on patrol and heard the shots come in.  They were able to respond fairy quickly to that address.”

However, by the time police got to the scene, the shooter was already gone.

“Arriving at the address, they found there was a 47-year-old female victim who had been hit several times with gunshots,” Horrocks says.

The victim, Wanyun Judd, was taken to a nearby hospital, where she died.

Investigators believe Judd was  not the intended target.  Ramirez believe the shooter was aiming at someone else living on the property.

“Unfortunately, she was a casualty because her apartment was right next door,” she says.

Investigators say no one got a good look at the shooter, the driver or the getaway car.  They believe the car escaped by going east out of the alley, then south on State Street.
